Finding the right treatment plan for acne - Harley Medical News

AcneA team of professionals in the US are lending their support to a new article covering the importance of treating and preventing acne in young people.

Roughly 80 per cent of teenagers suffer from acne at some point in their life – the skin condition can cause self-esteem problems, leading to depression and anxiety.

Research by AgelessRx, a high-end medispa located in Long Island, New York, found “combining several treatment strategies together is often the best way to see long-lasting results”.

For example, a person can use a face wash with benzoyl peroxide and then visit their local clinic for microdermabrasion sessions. This prevents bacteria from getting used to one particular type of treatment and provides more powerful results.

Using rough material, microdermabrasion buffs away layers of skin, getting rid of dead cells that can lead to clogged pores.

A statement from the Long Island team read: “Microdermabrasion is a comfortable procedure that significantly improves the look and feel of skin. Combined with the right topical treatments, clients are often blown away by the reduction in acne they see after undergoing several sessions.”

Another strategy for mild to moderate acne is taking a course of antibiotics. These cut down on the amount of bacteria found in the pimples, thus reducing inflammation. This course of action should only be taken for a short period of time as bacteria can become resistant to specific antibiotics.

Some find topical retinoids applied directly to the skin also help manage their mild to moderate acne.
